New Bells Ring out over Taunton

Some 360 ringers, friends and guests gathered at St. Mary's on the afternoon of Sunday March 19th 2017, for the dedication of the new ring of 12 bells. After over two hours of general ringing the bells were lowered at 5.30 pm; many comments were made about the ease of handling and quality of tone compared to the old ring.

Earlier in the week our organist was able to record the first batch of 12 tunes for the chimes and these were used before the 10 am service. The clock chimes and tunes played at 9 am, 12 noon, 3pm & 6 pm have also been reinstated after a silence of some 6 years!

The sound control has been fixed to the belfry louvers, but more needs to be done to adjust the internal sound balence in the ringing chamber, and the level of sound for both ringing and the chimes on the outside of the church. We would ask those who would like to visit for peals or quarter peals to be patient while we try to complete this work.
